February 10, 2015 – Administrative Patent Judge Richard E. Rice denied petitioner TriVascular, Inc.’s rehearing request in IPR2013-00493 against patent owner Shaun L.W. Samuels, rejecting TriVascular’s arguments that the Board had applied an incorrect claim interpretation and misapprehended the state of the prior art in its final decision. The patent at issue was U.S. Patent No. 6,007,575, entitled “Inflatable Intraluminal Stent and Method for Affixing Same Within the Human Body.” The technology at issue relates to an inflatable intraluminal stent for treating conditions such as stenosis.
