PTAB finds knee arthroplasty patent obvious

May 21, 2015 – In a final written decision, the PTAB found the remaining challenged claim of Bonutti Skeletal’s U.S. Patent No. 7,806,896, which relates to a knee arthroplasty method, unpatentable as obvious.  The PTAB held that the Petitioner, Zimmer Holdings, Inc., showed, by a preponderance of the evidence, that prior art references disclosed all the limitations of the remaining claim, including securing the cutting edge to the bone.  The case is captioned Zimmer Holdings, Inc. v. Bonutti Skeletal Innovations LLC, IPR2014-00321.
