Zimmer and Acacia settle disputes over knee surgery patents

September 28, 2015 – Acacia Research Corp. and Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. settled its lawsuits in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and the United States District Court for the District of Delaware on September 25, 2015.  The lawsuits related to Zimmer allegedly infringing Acacia’s subsidiary Bonutti Skeletal Innovations LLC’s patents for medical sutures and knee surgery methods.  The patents at issue were U.S. Patent Nos. 6,702,821; 7,806,896; 8,133,229; 5,921,986; 6,638,279; 8,147,514; 7,087,073; 7,708,740; 7,806,897; 7,828,852; 7,931,690; 7,070,557; 6,423,063; 6,099,531; and 7,104,996.  The settled cases are Bonutti Skeletal Innovations LLC v. Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. et al., Civil Action No. 1:12-cv-01107 (D. Del) and Biomet Inc. v. Bonutti Skeletal Innovations LLC, Civil Action No. 3:13-cv-00176 (N.D. Ind.).
