University of California Files Patent Infringement Complaint Against AtriCure Over Surgical Atrial Fibrillation Instruments

November 9, 2016 – The Regents of the University of California filed a complaint for patent infringement against AtriCure, Inc. on November 8, 2016 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.  The lawsuit relates to AtriCure’s allegedly infringing medical devices and equipment that are used to treat atrial fibrillation.  The patents at issue are U.S. Patent Nos. 6,164,283 and 6,502,576, both entitled: “Device and Method for Forming a Circumferential Block in a Pulmonary Vein.”  The complaint has been given Civil Action No. 3:16-cv-06506 (N.D. Cal.).
