December 19, 2016 – Maquet Cardiovascular LLC filed a complaint for patent infringement against Saphena Medical, Inc. and inventor Albert Chin on December 16, 2016 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit relates to Saphina’s allegedly infringing Venapax Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting System, a surgical device that may be used in conjunction with coronary artery bypass surgery. The patents at issue are U.S. Patent No. 5,916,233, entitled: “Vessel Harvesting Method and Instrument Including Access Port”; U.S. Patent No. 6,705,986, entitled: “Vein Harvesting System and Method”; and U.S. Patent No. 7,534,243, entitled: “Dissection and Welding of Tissue.” The complaint has been given Civil Action No. 5:16-cv-07213 (N.D. Cal.).
