Judge Robinson Issues Claim Construction Order in Patent Dispute Between Johns Hopkins and Alcon Over Sutureless Occular Surgical Instruments

February 24, 2017 – Senior United States District Judge Sue L. Robinson issued an Order on February 22, 2017, construing five claim terms at issue in The Johns Hopkins Univ. v. Alcon Laboratories, Inc. et al., Civil Action No. 15-525-SLR (D. Del.).  The patent at issue is U.S. Patent No. 7,077,848, entitled “Sutureless Occular Surgical Methods and Instruments for Use in Such Methods.”  The technology at issue relates to surgical methods involving the eye (retinal tear or detachment surgery, macular hole surgery) as well as the instruments or devices used during those surgical procedures.
